The electric battery is a direct current generator device discovered by the count Alessandro volta, Italian physicist. Starting from a phenomenon discovered by Galvani, Volta studies the electrical tensions which are established between different metals and develops an accumulator capable of storing electrical energy. This invention played a major role in the second industrial revolution.

The wind was along with water the first source of energy exploited by man. The windmill first appeared in the East, in Ancient Egypt in Iran, and it was used in Persia for irrigation as early as 600 BC. The wings are arranged radially on a vertical axis. The idea of this type of mill will be transmitted by the Arabs in the West, where the horizontal axis device will be adopted. the use of the windmill spreads in Europe from the tenth century in the most favorable areas, and it knows a certain success, in particular with the millers who use it for the manufacture of flour.

The invention of electricity, or rather the development of the science of electrification phenomena, was materialized by the Coulomb's law (1785), allowing Volta to create the first electric battery (1800) then to Thomas edison to light up factories and homes (1879). If theelectrical phenomena have always existed and have been observed since antiquity, we had to waitthe end of the 18th century to theorize them, and the 19th century to master them.

The invention or rather the mastery of fire happened in a very gradual fashion, and over a very long period of time. For a long time it was thought that fire appeared in the time of Homo erectus 500,000 years ago and that its use developed under Homo sapiens. Recent research in Africa has shown evidence of a much older use of fire. The circumstances of the discovery of fire remain difficult to determine: is it recovered from a natural fire and then maintained, or is it the result of the friction of materials? The question remains unanswered...

Thelight bulb invention is generally attributed toThomas edison, which designs and then markets, the October 21, 1879, a bulb whose filament is a carbonized cotton fiber. But it's actually a certain Joseph swan, whose anteriority is recognized following a lawsuit, which was at the origin of the electric bulb. The two men will also be authorized to manufacture their bulbs, which will undergo over the decades transformations and improvements which still monopolize the energy of many research laboratories today.

The oil discovery dates back to Antiquity. Wherever the oil-bearing rocks were exposed, bitumen was used as an insulator. TheEgyptiansalso used theoilfor mummification,Mesopotamiansas a cosmetic and lighting fuel. The petroleum industry was officially born on a day in the summer of 1859 when the engineer Edwin drake, a former railroad worker who claimed to be a colonel, saw oil spurt from his drilling rig in Titus Town, Pennsylvania.

The exact origin of the water Mill but it is highly probable that the latter is the result of improvements made to the noria used in the Near East for irrigation.
