After two editions devoted to knights (2013) and the end of the world (2014), the "Coils and Parchments" festival »Do it again! The third edition will take place from March 24 to March 29, 2015 at the cinema Le Desperado (23 rue des Ecoles, 75005 Paris) and from March 14 to 20, 2015 in other places in Paris and Ile-de-France (Cinéma Jacques Prévert in Aulnay-sous-Bois , Bar La Cantada). In addition to films, as in previous years, themed evenings, a walk in Paris, and a special program on Radio Libertaire will be offered.

Women in the spotlight, from Joan of Arc to Pope Joan

Main theme of this edition, women in the Middle Ages are celebrated by a selection of seven films, with directors as diverse as Ingmar Bergman, Luc Besson, Bertrand Tavernier or Robert Bresson. Do not forget either “The Princess Mononoké” the magnificent animated Miyazaki, screened at the Jacques Prévert cinema in Aulnay.
This eclecticism will make it possible to paint an almost complete panorama of the representations of women in films whose action takes place in the Middle Ages. It will allow us to reflect both on the place of women in medieval society and on that left to female characters in the cinema of the second half of the 20th century, and will therefore allow us to grasp some of the intersections that take place between narratives history and cinematographic writing.

Conan and Ivanhoë as guest stars

True to its tradition, the festival offers other screenings and evenings. We can cite the classic “Ivanhoë” and especially the “Conan” by John Milius, who will find in the Cantada bar the ideal setting to spill the blood of the sect of snake worshipers.
A debate around Comics, the Middle Ages and women is also scheduled, in the presence of several comic book authors, in particular Valérie Mangin, Jeanne Puchol (respectively scriptwriter and designer of the comic strip Moi, Jeanne d'Arc) and Christophe Hittinger.
Finally, a discovery walk around the theme of women in medieval Paris will allow you to make history "that comes out of the walls" (Editor's note: expression borrowed from Nicolas Offenstadt).

History for all, partner of the festival, will keep you informed of every moment of the festival, with some on-board reports.
